Atocha train station
The Atocha Train Station is located in the district of Arganzuela and was the first train station ever to be built in Madrid. It was first known as the Estacion de Medioda, meaning, South Station. But now, it is called simply as the Estacion de Atocha. The Atocha Train Station was inaugurated on February 9, 1851. The Atocha Train Station suffered during the early years of 1890 when a fire destroyed most of the building. Now, the Atocha Train Station is converted into a shopping mall with numerous cafes and nightclubs within the area as well as a tropical garden that is quite breathtaking to behold.
Atocha Train Station is located in the center of Madrid where most commuter trains stop over. It is also considered to be the main point of intercity trains as well as AVE high-speed trains that connect different provinces to the center of the country. The operator of the AVE trains thinks that someday they will be able to connect the entire country via the AVE trains. Since the Atocha Train Station is located in the center of Madrid, there are numerous hotels, hostels, and other accommodations that passengers can avail of as well as interesting sights that can occupy most of the tourists’ time.
